Help me give my students journals (and some extras) to send them on a path of self-reflection that will develop confidence, self-awareness, and a sense of purpose.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love learning! Whether it be Math, Science, Reading, and/or Art, they are all in! Some are loving the virtual situation and others, not so much.
My students are all doing the best they can and they have realized that distance learning is not easy, but they have accepted the challenge.
They know that they have to stay organized and distraction-free during our lessons. They know there is a schedule we must stick to. Most of all, they know school is not just for learning content, it is where they will learn to be responsible, empathetic, and empowered.
My Project
We are about to embark on a Student Council Election that includes 4th and 5th graders in our school. The requirement to participate is to create a campaign poster but most importantly to write a compelling campaign speech. There's one of two scenarios that play out each year, however. Either there are so many students that lack the confidence to participate that we find there is no real election to be held or there is an overflow of interested candidates that lack the insight to understand why they want the position.
Journal writing is a simple strategy that will be used to teach students about civics while developing their own characters that will lead them to find their voice and their sense of purpose.
The plan is to use journaling in conjunction with a form of the Leader in Me program that promotes student development by teaching the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, written by Stephen Covey. Concurrently, students will learn about student government and how it mirrors the U.S. Government leadership.
The extra materials that I have requested for my students are for the purpose of creating campaign posters for the Student Council elections which will happen at the beginning of their journey and for creating vision boards at the end of their journey with me this school year. The vision boards will be the culminating artifact that will showcase their personal growth and leadership skills.
