This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Law Club is up and reading! We had an unprecedented number of students sign up for the Law club with 30 students actually following through. Our legal scholars asked for pocket Constitutions (for students that do not have me as their law teacher), inspirational posters, and an organized place to keep their Law folders in the classroom. It is very difficult to get students to participate in school clubs because of our school schedule. It is important to engage students and keep them coming.

The students who have followed through with coming to Law Club meetings are very curious about the law and want to learn and experience as much as they can.

At the foundation of our legal system is, of course, the Constitution. The pocket Constitutions that I use in my classroom have been incredibly powerful and provide my students with agency and knowledge. All students in the Law Club will benefit.

Also, we plan on having legal guests come and talk to the students and we are going to try and visit courthouses. Their folders will hold of their Law Club work and will remain in the classroom, organized in the file organizer.
