My Students
My students live in the far southeast area of Chicago. An area of the city that most people don't know about or forget about. Our school is overflowing with wonderful children eager to learn. And the population continues to grow as new families move into the community.
My Project
Since returning to in-person learning we as a school are working to rebuild students' social skills through Social-Emotional Learning. I find that students find art to be a therapeutic outlet & strength to express themselves. I would like to engage them in the kindness rocks projects. Students would use the paint pens and rocks to create tokens of kindness & inspiration, through decorating a rock with a symbol and message to lift someone up. The idea is that 1 message found at the right moment can uplift your whole day, outlook, and life. We would then take a walk through our school community and place the rocks throughout for others to find and then keep the sharing of kindness going.
