Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have just finished the unit on argumentation and are now set to start writing our first argumentative essay - Common Core style. I hear the collective sighs in the class, and I see the numerous heads moving downward with frustrated countenances. Writing has always been a challenge.
My class is a mixture of level and style.
Some students already have a grasp of what an argumentative essay entails, but there are those who continue to struggle with this style. Some need direction on how to collect relevant evidence for their essay, while others need direction on how to start their introduction. Still others need help on elaboration within their body paragraphs. In a class such as this, I am continually pulled in different directions - and all within a 55 minute class period!
My Project
These workbooks will help the class greatly in that the students will not only get a detailed step by step guide to argumentative writing, but they could also use it as a resource to get direction from when I am helping another student. The workbook is set up for easy understanding and takes the student through the writing process - from drafting to the revised essay. An added bonus?
The workbook contains ALL the styles of writing that students have to master in the Common Core State Standards. This is a resource that we will be using all year long.
By the end of the year, my students will have mastered these writing styles: argumentative, informative, narrative, research reports, and literary analysis.
This class set is the perfect Writing Companion for them in the classroom.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
