Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kindergarten students are an enthusiastic and inquisitive group of children. They are mostly second language learners with families originating from mostly Hispanic countries. Some of my students live with both parents, siblings, and/or extended family, while others live with a single working parent. This entire school year thus far has been one of Distance Learning as we work and live in the times of the pandemic. Despite the struggles that families face, my students thrive with loving support from home and high classroom expectations.
Curiosity, joyfulness, persistence, supportive, and collaborative are all words that describe my group of young scholars who prepare to meet the challenges of the near future.
I am proud of the way they've learned to remain engaged in less-than-desirable circumstances this school year. And I'm proud of the way their families have gone above and beyond in helping to create our classroom community. Experiences within our classroom have set the stage for first grade and beyond.
My Project
We are setting the foundation for success in the classroom and beyond. First and foremost is learning how to be a compassionate, kind, and happy young scholar! These materials will help our kindergarten students learn about their own feelings, the feelings of others, and how to develop empathy.
The library (Kindness Compassion) books and character education posters will provide a foundation in our social-emotional program by providing students with stories they can relate to and visual text to remind us of classroom values.
The calming cuddle ball and super-safe mirrors will be a welcomed tool for children who need a little support as they develop self-control, providing an opportunity to feel calm and reflect.
