My Students
When teachers, students, librarians, and parents work together, students value reading and education, and they are more successful in their learning. Effective communication is the key to all of this.
I am a first year school librarian at a Title 1 school.
Every year, I make a goal to communicate with the parents and keep them involved. As a school librarian, I will set that same goal of communication with the parents, teachers, administrators, and students. I will strive to involve all the parents of the school in their child's reading success. The district I work for has a high percentage of Spanish speaking students and parents. With limited staff members who speak Spanish, the communication can sometimes be difficult.
My Project
By obtaining the Rosetta Stone software, I will be able to learn to speak Spanish, which will enable me to effectively communicate with the Spanish speaking students and families. When I am able to communicate in English and in Spanish, this will allow me to build a relationship with more students and more families in the classroom, and in my future library. This will build a relationship, where I can work together with all families in the school to build reading motivation and reading success.
I know that if I gain knowledge of the Spanish language, I can bridge the language gap for the school and the families with limited English.
This will positively impact those families, as well as the entire school.
