My project needs a variety of materials for independent learning centers, such as magnetic letters, table top pocket charts and a listening center storage unit.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Fun and exciting learning opportunities? Absolutely! I teach first grade in a low-income, high-need area and most of my students are English Language Learners.
Many of my students are struggling to reach grade-level standards in reading and writing. In order to meet their needs, I have designed a learning block referred to as "Literacy Centers." During this time, students work in small groups on various skill building activities while I meet with students individually or in small groups in order to instruct each student at their specific level. It is a constant struggle to find appropriate, engaging, yet meaningful, learning activities that students can do independently.
With your sponsorship, I can provide new and interesting options for my students during Literacy Centers time. These activities include magnetic letters for fun phonics practice, a pocket chart that sits right on the table for learning high frequency words as well as a variety of other materials geared to support literacy development.
Your contribution to this project can significantly increase the reading and writing level of my first graders as well as continuing their positive experience with school.
