My Students
I currently teach in a rural community in south-central Illinois that is 50% free and reduced lunch. Our emotional disturbed students need additional literary supplies to help with reading fluency and comprehension within the Special Education classroom. Scientific research shows a direct correlation between early reading intervention and student achievement.
Actively engaging students in reading will allow them to explore and learn more about their career goals and interests.
Academic Literacy is an area that all students need in all subject areas in order for their continued academic success in years to come.
My Project
The books will be used for Literary Circles and for independent student reading. Requested titles include All American Boys, The First Part Last, The Hate U Give, This One Summer, The Outsiders, and Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines.
This the beginning of an in-classroom library, in order to engage students in reading.
The books will help struggling readers learn the importance of reading and academic success.
Students with learning disabilities struggle to want to read but find it difficult to find books that interest them. These books will enable them to actively and independently engage in reading in the classroom. The goal is help students increase their reading fluency, comprehension, and overall joy of reading over time.
Reading is essential in student growth and academic success, both in school and social and emotional learning. This allows students to also actively engage in class discussion on current subject areas that currently evolve in our society.
