Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Technology is an inevitable part of every child's future. Most children already have had significant exposure to technology, i.e. Smart phones, iPads, cable/TV, laptops, etc. in our classroom we want to use technology constructively and not as a time filler.

Our Pre-K students attend an inner city title 1 school.

We because a Magnet school with a museum theme a few years ago because we are surrounded by wonderful art centers, museums, and other opportunities. Our students are very diverse. We have many languages and cultures represented. Our class is also very diverse economically. Some children live in the government housing across the street, the doctors housing on the other side, or the luxury buildings within walking distance that encompasses upper middle class and low income eligible families. Many of our children are exposed to wonderful learning opportunities at home or in the community, but some have many of these first experiences, like playing with clay or using technology, in the classroom.

My Project

We are requesting 4 ipads and child friendly stands to use in conjunction with our curriculum. The ipads will be used for various functions, i.e. take pictures, create a comic book to teach others, create PSAs using imovie, stories online, and go on virtual museum tours of far away places. There are so many apps that will support math and science. We love using an app that allows us to see what is in space above us at the moment. There are shape and puzzle apps to help spacial relations. There are healthy eating and animal care apps. The ipads will primarily be used during center time, about 20-30 minutes a number of times a month. Sometimes the ipad activities will be teach guided and other times they will be independently. During teacher directed activities the children will learn content and applications of technology. During independent work the children will have academic content reinforced as well as developing confidence through their independence.

Your donation will give our students to utilize current technology in a world were it grows by leaps and bounds.

We want the children to be 21st Century learners, so we must give them access to tools that helps them meet that end. This donation will give children access to technology that they may not have at home. ipads are a teaching tool that allow children to be independent learners too. ipads allow us to help expand the child's learning environment into the world at large.
