My students need 12 microscopes to investigate plant seeds and the cells of plants.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Who knew the building blocks of life were so fascinating?
I teach 2nd grade in a self-contained classroom setting. My students always have a study partner. Most of the students come from a background of limited exposure to scientific data. Probably most have never visited the zoo or an aquarium.
I want my students to experience the thrill of the microscopic world. We have one hour of science daily and want to actually SEE what makes that seed grow and SEE what living plants cells really look like.
Each team will share a microscope and document their discoveries. They will learn how to prepare a slide. They will learn how to focus and draw a picture of their object of discovery. Using this NEW information they can now move on the writing about their observations. All good scientists illustrate and write about their discoveries. We keep science notebooks daily.
Your help will make it possible for my students to discover the invisible world of microscopic cells. We will use the microscopes with our Plant Unit, Bird Unit, and Insect Unit. The books tell us the dragon fly has 2,000 eyes. With a microscope maybe we can believe it. The books tell us a bird's feather has "hooks" on it, I want them to see the "hooks".
