The Incredible Incubators!

Help me give my students a larger incubation center. This will help us incubate and hatch more eggs so that we will be able to donate more chicks and ducklings to more people in our local community.

My Project

Our favorite yearly project is incubating and hatching chicks and ducklings. This is a true community involvement. We have many members of our community who bring in chicken and duck eggs for our 2nd-grade class to incubate and hatch. Some of the donors ask for the chicks and ducklings back, while some do not. All the chicks and ducklings are donated to community members who have the proper setup to safely raise them and then in turn bring us more eggs back to do it all over again. This is an exciting part of our science curriculum as 2nd-grade students learn about the life cycle of a chick. This carries over to language and math classes also. We read many things about the development and progress of this. In math, we run numbers, and percentages, make charts, and so much more. This always has a huge impact on our entire school community because all other teachers will schedule times during the process to bring their class up to see the candling done and the progress of the eggs up until they hatch. Then the really exciting part is when we have chicks and ducklings that the students can see and touch, knowing they came from an egg.
