My Project

For students with special needs, access to regular and nutritious snacks is critical, not only for maintaining their health, but also for supporting their academic success. Special needs students often require additional energy to focus and remain engaged during lessons. In low-income areas, where families may struggle to afford consistent meals, providing snacks at school can ensure that these students are not distracted by hunger. The lack of proper nutrition can impair their cognitive function, leading to decreased attention, memory, and problem-solving skills, which are especially important for special needs students who may already face learning challenges.

Furthermore, many of these students live in food deserts, where fresh produce and healthy food options are scarce.

This lack of access to nutritious foods at home compounds the challenges they face in the classroom. By providing snacks, schools can alleviate some of the pressures on families and ensure that students are well-nourished and ready to learn. It’s essential to recognize the role that hunger plays in a student's ability to succeed academically and socially. Schools that offer consistent snacks help level the playing field for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, giving them the opportunity to thrive.
