My students need large chart paper for reference posters and notes, write on transparencies for annotating text, such as the SS and Science TBs. Staplers are also needed.

My Students
By biggest challenge seems to be in helping my students in special education realize they are bigger than the words "Common Core." I remind them that in today's expectations, the Common Core will help them realize their full potential as they work hard and are challenged to think and explore ideas.
I work in a public school in the NYC school system, in special education, in a very small middle school.
Thirteen students with learning disabilities, Autism, and Other Health Impairments are in a co-teaching class, along with sixteen other general education students. Each day we move from core classes such as humanities, math, and science; I work alongside each general education teacher to adapt the lessons to meet the special needs of our students, and help them all to access the curriculum.
My Project
These materials are necessary in our day to day struggle to keep up with the demands of the common core expectations! From the chart paper to transparencies, I am continually adopting new and innovative ways to ready my students to be college and career ready. Creating "anchor charts" for almost every lesson taps into the visual path to learning. This path is key this year, as the students are all benefiting from my reference posters. Last year, we were able to participate in selecting books for the middle school library, the pocket charts will help us track them and allow the students to borrow more, as our library has been closed due to budgetary constraints. Finally, supplies such as write on transparencies can prove so helpful for marking up difficult to read text or any text I cannot photocopy readily. The students who use these have expressed it helps monitor their comprehension. Unfortunately, they can get dingy quickly and we are running very low!
At times, my students do not feel their full potential and therefore, give up easily.
The more opportunities I share with them, given some basic (consumable) classroom materials, the more times I can prove what I know...that THEY CAN DO IT!!! I hope someone out there wishes they had a "Mrs. Reese" to share in their learning experience. I know I do.
