Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Curious, inquisitive and adventurous - that's what best describes my fifth-grade class. They are always eager to learn and share their creative ideas with others. Although they are talented writers, they are sometimes bored with the writing assignments and wish to have creative outlets of self-expression. This project will help them explore creative ways to enhance their writing through the principles of typography and visual designs.
Help my students achieved beyond their neighborhood and provide them with the confidence, knowledge and the tools they need to succeed in our visually stimulating tech-savvy world.
Let's get them excited about type!
Since we are a federally designated Title I School in the heart of Miami, most of my students come from predominantly low-income homes, but they are eager to learn and express their uniqueness. Their lack of financial resources can mean that they lack writing materials and resources at home to express themselves with creatively.
With your help, we can make sure they are able to see the beauty in everything, especially the power of words and type.
My Project
We want to use the funds to purchase materials to explore TYPOGRAPHY in print graphic designs and in digital form with the use of a dedicated keyboard and trackpad for the iPad. By incorporating a keyboard, students can type on the iPad better since the screen will be maximized during the typing of documents, flyers, and projects using different forms of type designs. This will help make typing easier while offering a higher level of protection to the iPad.
It is challenging to use the on-screen keyboard of the iPad since it takes up valuable screen space and limits the comfort of typing.
Through the integration of technology in our class, students will be engaged and prepared to explore how typography can impact written messages. Typography will also be explored using mixed-media to create posters, memes, and flyers manually to appreciate the value of written expression and design. To manipulate and explore hand-written typography, poster paper, pens, scissors, and paper cutter will permit students to further express their message to create visually appealing designs. Help expand the limits of type and written expression as we take it from digital form to print form. Help me get my students HYPED about TYPE!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
