This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my project-based class/shop, we have made sure that the study of Humanities is an actionable effort. This means that the learning we take on is reinforced through hands-on activities that allow us to collaborate with our community by way of design and build efforts. Examples of this include learning about coastal environmental issues while building sailboats, examining industrial agriculture while designing and installing urban farming products, and exploring our connections to natural spaces while building custom campers. After several years of heavy use, it is time for new sun protection so that our authentic hands-on work can continue.

The canopies we are requesting will help us keep our outdoor workspace comfortable and productive for hands-on learning.

It is a huge effort to fund and maintain the shop aspect of our class, but so important because of the hands-on reinforcement that it offers to our learning. As my students work away in collaboration with real customers, there is no doubt they will be thankful for the support that helps to make their projects possible and fun.
