Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in an inner city school in one of the largest districts in the country. I have wonderful students who are inspired to be the first in their families to graduate high school and attend college.

However, for most of them English is their second language and many struggle with reading and getting engaged in science. Some struggle with my science textbook so much they give up. I want to help bring alive the topic of science to my students and get them to read more in the classroom by using my personal favorite book growing up, "The Hot Zone".

A classroom set of "The Hot Zone" will allow me to incorporate science literacy into my class, a goal I strive for every day. It will help my students to read- and they will not only improve their reading, but become more excited about it.

Your generous donation will allow my students the opportunity to fall in love with a book I was so fond of as a young adult. If I can get them to see how science is interesting, I may even be able to help them become lifelong learners. This donation will truly make a difference in my class.
