My students are one of a kind. They are children whom, have not had life handed to them. They are students who come to school with the world on their shoulders and locked in emotions with no release. They are children who have had to grow up quickly. My classroom serves as a safe haven for them. In my class we are a family.
Learning is a treasure that will follow the student everywhere.
I want to give my students the best learning experiences possible. They are becoming curious students and learning to ask the question: Why? To continue to foster and expand this mind set, I need the right materials. To have the right materials, I need the funds. As a teacher in the city, it is expensive buying for 22 students.
Our school is located in an area where the poverty rate is high. Their parents cannot afford to buy books or even classroom materials. If you could help fund my projects for my class, our future would be benefit. We always comment that our students are our future, it’s time we start acting like it.
My Project
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. These books will enhance my students desire to read. Our school is unable to fund class set books; therefore our students are not able to read the same books. This limits the activities I am able to create in my classroom. Purchasing these books will also expand their knowledge of the Holocaust. It also helps to expand their ability to empathize, connect, and grow with the characters in the books. Students would have the chance to take the books home, read them with their parents, and have rich and intense classroom discussions. Purchasing the books will also increase their responsibility as a student. The books can create responsible, divergent, and strong readers.
