This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My kindergarten students come from diverse backgrounds. Fiction and nonfiction books that use holidays to tell the stories of diverse students can help a child who is not from the dominant culture feel a sense of belonging while aiding students from the mainstream understand that the other cultures have meaning and relevance. These selected books about holidays, such as Kwanzaa, Diwali, and Christmas, inform students and their families about the different meanings and purposes of the customs and traditions associated with these holidays. The children enjoy learning about the songs, food, and games their classmates use to celebrate their family’s cultural holidays.
