The Heroes Project: Tuskegee Airmen From Cleveland, Ohio
Help me give my students the necessary materials to create paintings honoring the Tuskegee Airmen from Cleveland, Ohio. Vinyl reproductions will be installed at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and the original work will show at various institutions.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Quinn's classroom raised $629

My Project
The North Coast Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen reached out to our School of the Arts to collaborate on making their dreams of a mural at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport come true. The Tuskegee Airmen played a major role in WWII and paved the way to the civil rights movement. There are 47 documented original airmen from Cleveland, Ohio that students are currently researching. Our next step is to paint and students need the materials ready to go! After students create their paintings, a graphic artist will be using photographs of the student work to install in the baggage claim area of the airport. The original artwork will be showcased at the School of the Arts' Black History Celebration on February 28th, 2005. The show will then travel to the Cleveland History Center. We hope to reach more institutions after.
Our goal is to honor our hometown heroes in a big way!
The requested materials are necessary to make this happen. The panels will provide professional, durable surfaces for the paintings. The varnish will also help protect the artwork during their travels. I am requesting paper towels so that I can stop stealing them from the staff bathroom (sorry, colleagues!) and rags because I have no more old shirts to cut up!
My students are special because I know they can do this! Their work will honor our Cleveland Heroes and keep their stories alive. Thank you for considering!
