The Healing Wall, Reflections of Sandy

My students need art supplies for a Hurricane Sandy Relief community wide project they are creating to show their support and solidarity for the city of Hoboken

My Students

A wall is made of individual bricks, together they create a foundation and more important, they create a community. We invited all schools in our district to join us in creating "The Healing Wall", which will made of individual bricks. This wall will be displayed in Hoboken's City Hall.

We are a service learning school.

During the year our students participate in school wide, k-12 service learning programs. In addition, our Peace Jam chapter donates books to the hospital, cooks and serves guests in the shelter, focuses on recycling in our school, plants trees, raises money for programs and more. Our Interact Club is currently collecting money to raise awareness about lung cancer. They created a fund in memory of a students father, and will donate some of the collection to the Lung Cancer Circle of Hope Foundation in NJ. Service Learning to our students doesn't mean talking about change, we make the change. Students united in our Healing Wall project in our efforts to support the city of Hoboken.

My Project

Creating this wall will give our students leadership, managerial, technical and problem solving skills. We invited every school in our district to join us in our efforts, with our students taking the lead. So far we have over 600 students (and counting) participating not counting ours! This project will unite us as individuals and as a community.

This project will show students they can make a difference, and that their ideas can become a reality.

The students will not only bask in the success of their efforts, but they will gain knowledge from the process as well.
