The Harry Potter Project – Promoting Life Long Literacy!
Help me give my students the love of reading Harry Potter Books. . Increasing the number of Harry Potter books in my school and classroom will allow me to extend this project to more students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have been an educator for 25 years. I currently teach 7th grade social studies. I have students reading levels ranging from 2nd through 10th grades. About 75% are below grade level.
I want the students to acquiring the love of reading is a great accomplishment.
In the small group that I have been able to accommodate this year with the limited number of Harry Potter books. Increasing the number of Harry Potter books in my school will allow me to extend this project to more students.
My Project
The Harry Potter Project allows students to seamlessly master multiple 7th grade English Language Arts standards in a manner that is enjoyable to students. The students in the Enrichment Reading class traditionally read below grade level and often resist reading for pleasure. However, once these students begin audio supported reading of the Harry Potter books, they became eager to read because they found the books entertaining and interesting. Many students began reading ahead, independently. Also, the activities used to assess and evaluate student mastery of the content are also designed to increase interest and engaging. Without prompting many students went in search of more Harry Potter books and other books of the same genre.
My hope is that this project will lead to increases English Language Arts proficiency and a lifelong love of literacy.
