Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The items requested in this project will allow us to "green our space." My students will learn how to care for an array of plants and then host a school-wide event where students will plant a seedling that can be taken home. By doing so, we can improve the air quality around us.
Students will learn how plants contribute to reducing CO2 and thus are an important part of tackling climate change.
We want our children to understand the importance of using the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and learn how to be self-sustainable.
Additionally, students will learn that there are many future careers for people who love plants in fields like horticulture, conservation, farming, botany, and biology. Lastly, plants make us happy. They give us life, fresh air, and a sense of calm, all of which have the ability to lift mood and improve well-being.
NASA studies show having plants improves mood, enhances creativity, and reduces stress. I will be happy to report back on the effects of living plants in the classroom.
