My Students
Students at my school love to learn, and can acquire so much more knowledge if only we had the resources. Some of these students are described as limited English students, delinquent, migratory students, or students with disabilities. The total enrollment is approximately 675 students. The ethnic composition is comprised of approximately 62% Black, 11% White, 20% Hispanic, .2% American Indian, 3% Asian, and 3% two or more races.
In my school, 64.5% of the students are eligible for free or reduced meals.
One of the ways I want to inspire a love of learning for my students is through STEAM-based instruction with innovative technology using visual arts. Art provides diverse opportunities for communication and expression. As teachers, we need to learn and adapt to new technologies to stay ahead of the curve and prepare our students for their futures.
My Project
Instead of the traditional and banal pencil and paper assessment, students can get a chance to showcase their creativity and knowledge about a particular topic learned in class using an iPad camera and a green screen. A green screen backdrop will allow students to create interesting digital effects. Students can photograph or videotape a subject in front of a green screen. Then, using technology, they can remove the green screen color and replace it with a different image of their choice. My Green Screen Project will give students the opportunity to create amazing student-driven, directed, and edited videos placing them anywhere in the world using the Green Screen app by Do Ink. Green screens are a great way to have students explore digital storytelling and media creation. Students working with a green screen will include drawing storyboards, building props, shooting scenes, and using computer editing.
Students’ creations are only limited by their imaginations and with the green screen kit and app, students will tell stories, explain an idea, and express themselves in creative and unique ways.
When students are placed in the director’s chair, it facilitates authentic learning and assessment opportunities.
