Help me give my students a class set of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" to use as an anchor text for our cross-curricular Jazz Age/Post WWI disillusion unit.
I work in a small school where I see the same students every year. Last year, my sophomores starting asking to read "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald when a TikTok trend spiked their interest in the book. I told them it would go along with our curriculum as well as their history curriculum for their junior year, and promised we would do it then.
They reminded me about many times before school was out for the year!
I am excited that THEY are excited to read this book. I can't wait to see how they react to the drama in the novel. We will use their interest and engagement to deepen critical thinking by making historical and modern connections to the themes in the book.
