This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of the population is receiving free or reduced-rate lunch. The students in our school are well-behaved and are always looking for a challenge. Our school is located in a central part of the city where many cultures live together. Our school is unique because even with such a diverse population, the students manage to get along and do the job that is expected from each and every one of them. We are fortunate to have a science lab, which services students from 2nd-5th grades. This lab is important so that students can become involved in more hands-on STEAM activities as part of the regular curriculum.
My Project
My students need a drone to extend their learning outside the classroom. Drones in my Science class can help to develop innovative thinking, problem solving strategies, and encourage group participation. Drones would be an integral part of S.T.E.A.M education.
Adding a drone to my classroom will be a powerful tool to kick start students into the kind of creative and innovative thinkers they will need to be in today's rapidly changing world.
Some of the ways that I could use the drone is to enrich my students learning by turning them into real life field scientists. Students can get a birds eye view of what different areas around the school will look like. They can map out sections of the school and find the area and square footage. Students can go up high over the canopies of different trees, and study the wild life from above. The students can attach a thermometer to the drone, so they can see the different temperature changes in different altitudes. Imagine learning about their environment through real time exploration.
The addition of a drone in my classroom will provide endless creative and exciting learning opportunities for all students!
