My Project

Teaching in an honors classroom filled with students from diverse backgrounds is a privilege, as their varied experiences enrich our learning environment every day. These students are not just curious and driven, but they also bring empathy and a strong sense of community to our classroom.

I am seeking funding for a class set of The Grace Year by Kim Liggett.

This novel is a compelling exploration of themes such as societal norms, empowerment, and resilience. It offers a unique opportunity for students to engage with complex ideas and challenge their perspectives.

The Grace Year will significantly contribute to my students' learning in several ways. It will enhance their critical thinking skills as they analyze and discuss the novel’s intricate themes and character dynamics. The book will also serve as a catalyst for discussions about gender, power structures, and the importance of individuality, all of which are crucial topics for young adults to explore. By reading this novel, students will develop a deeper understanding of both literature and the world around them.

The primary goals of this project are to engage students with a thought-provoking narrative, foster a deeper understanding of societal issues, and encourage them to think independently and critically. I aim to create a learning environment where students can freely express their thoughts and connect the novel's themes to their own lives and experiences.

What makes my students truly special is their ability to approach diverse perspectives with openness and curiosity. Their enthusiasm for learning and their willingness to support one another in exploring complex ideas create a vibrant and inclusive classroom community. This project has the potential to further enhance their educational experience and personal growth.
