This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The ideal three stories a day are one favorite, one familiar, and one new, but the same book three times is also fine" - Mem Fox. Do you remember reading the Little Golden Books as you grew up? I have fond memories; and as I look at these books as a teacher, they are perfect for our beginner readers.

My students are lovely, bright and curious.

I teach at a school that is classified as Title 1, more than 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and a number of them are ESL learners. Many of them have already been identified as GT and really excel academically. Our school really encourages us to challenge our kiddos the best we can to prepare them for their future success.

My Project

I am requesting copies of Little Golden books that I will use in our classroom library and as read-alouds for the children. They will be able to choose stories that really interest them and hopefully, that will give them even more incentive to read! I also record stories on mp3 players that the students can listen to at home, so I know someone is reading to them every night. These books are perfect! They have a lot of the high frequency words that we are required to teach and the stories are often about animals, which is their favorite kind of character.

With this donation, you will help me to not only encourage my young readers with some interesting reading material, but also help me make a connection with them.

They will get a kick out of the fact that I read these books myself as a child and I think by having access to these stories it will help them become better readers. Who knows, maybe they are stories that they will read to their own children someday!
