This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my classroom come from low income families that speak mainly Spanish. The families depend on the services of the center while they are at work. Most of my students spend over eight hours at the center and are eager to learn. The students are scoring low in the area of Literacy and have a year to improve their scores. The children are already struggling because they are second language learners but with the proper tools they will excel.
My Project
This years culminating theme for the culminating class of 2017 is The Giving Tree by Shel SilverStein. This book will give each student the opportunity to take with them a book that will encourage their love for nature their entire life. It will be a reminder that nature can give you many different joys at any stage of the students life, from swinging from her tree branches, climbing on the trees trunk and eating the apples from the tree. This book also gives the lesson that the tree can give the boy parts of herself that can be transformed into material things such as money for apples, or make a boat form the trunk, this book will provide each child a life long learning opportunity.
