This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Tell me and I'll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me, and I'll understand. Native American Saying
I teach an inquisitive group of 5th grade students.
I teach in a high poverty area where most students don't partake in life experiences (traveling, going to the beach, museums, etc.) that others children their age have. I am constantly inspired by how they embrace learning with enthusiasm and curiosity.
My Project
I work with students in small groups for math and language arts. I have difficulty because I don't have any "easy to see" example space. Currently, I have a portable white board leaning against the window. It is awkward for me to manage and even more awkward for the students to see. Small group instruction should be about the students learning and practicing language and math, however it is often about trying to see what we are working on.
A white board easel would solve the problem. The students will have a large enough surface that they will be able to see when I am citing examples. Small group instruction will suddenly become about INSTRUCTION and not how I can manipulate the resources around us so the students will get something out of it. I even have the perfect space for the easel where the students will be able to see it easily. Finally, the students would have an opportunity to practice language in a small group environment.
Your help will ensure that my students receive a better learning environment.
They will be able to see the examples I cite easily, and this will allow for greater interaction in the classroom. The increased amount of interaction will give me a chance to give each student the individual instruction and attention that they deserve and need. I ordered two easels, one for myself and the other for my instructional aide.
