My Students
My kindergartens are very curious little people. This years crew asks millions and millions of questions about everything under the sun. I love it when they crave more and more information about seemingly everyday ordinary things. They love to say, "How come we can't watch another story about it"? They especially enjoy seeing National Geographic YouTube shows that show lifecycles (animals and plants).
This project is going to quench their thirst for knowledge because they will have a birds eye view to a burgeoning garden.
Kindergarten is a great place to develop a love of nature and its wonderful bounties. Having a sustainable garden in our classroom will help to make a tasty connection between their kindergarten tummies and our classroom garden.
My Project
I can't wait to share my joy of gardening with my kindergarteners. When my kinders see how easy the AeroGarden is to use, it will blow their minds into another stratosphere. The AeroGarden alerts the user to its needs. We'll know when it is time to add plant food or water. It even turns the lights on and off because there isn't enough sunlight in our classroom.
Just imagine if we grow a veggie that looks like Elvis or Kevin Hart.
That would make anyone giggle.
When we embark on our plant unit we will be: discussing plant life cycles, making plant observations in our journals, bolstering our vocabulary, watching out for patterns in nature, discussing and enjoying plants that we will be actually eating, listening to several great plant books- The Plant Sitter and One Bean (fiction and non-fiction), discussing the needs of living things and establishing a habit of looking towards the future. If you plant something, you can't eat it the same day. You have to take care of it so that it will produce something wonderful later.
