This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are family, a school family. It is how we live. It is how we behave. It is how we treat one another. It is how we learn and how we have fun, together. Based on the teachings of Dr. Becky Bailey and Conscious Discipline, we have grown into a self-sustaining community of kindness and love. I teach the PreK class for children with Special Needs. Ours is a middle to lower-middle-class neighborhood with a few random children from other neighborhoods who want their children in our PreK program. It's a good mix of children who present a wide range of abilities and challenges.
My Project
The Get Up and Go room is back! Our sensory room was on hiatus due to the pandemic; ever try to sanitize 5000 ball pit balls? So, while some activities and sensory materials will still be missing; being able to reopen the room to students is a great feeling.
Now our job becomes finding fun, safe sensory activities that can be sanitized between uses.
What could be better for this than a balance beam? Nothing. Balance beams are one of those underrated sensory items. So simple yet checks off so many boxes, balance, motor planning, sensory, perceptual, fun. The last one is the key. If the children are having fun the rest comes naturally.
