I currently teach 4th grade scholars in the Miami, Florida area in a difficult neighborhood of extreme poverty. I have enjoyed my year so much that I want to continue on with my scholars next year to 5th grade. My students are bright, intuitive, and have the drive to succeed no matter their circumstances. My students attend one of the lowest-achieving schools with little access to resources and experiences.
My students face unimaginable obstacles inside and outside of the classroom.
A majority of my students are at least a grade level behind where they should be, but that doesn't affect their determination to succeed. My students have a growth mindset, and they continue to amaze me with their perseverance and persistence. They will succeed. They will achieve.
The sky is the limit at my elementary school!
My Project
I am teaching 75 fourth grade students this year, and focusing on reading intervention. Scholastic News will allow me to work with students at their academic level, and give them quality reading materials to use and even take home. These yearly subscriptions were so effective last year, thanks to previous donors that I cannot imagine my classroom without them.
Scholastic Magazines are the most effective resource for students to use, and in so many ways.
This will improve literacy, and also expose students to current and informative news articles. Students will get personal and quality materials at their fingertips. The content will change, but their levels will remain the same. I will be able to support students at their level with this resource.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
