My Students

The classroom of the future is here NOW. At least, that's what comes to my mind when I think back to when I was a kid, imagining what life would be like in the future. . . robots, computers, gadgets. . . they are all here NOW!

I teach 2nd grade at a small suburban school in Washington.

My school is designated as a high-poverty school with many students receiving free/reduced priced meals because of their socioeconomic situation. If you were to come visit, however, you would never know that. You would see students who love learning and want to do their very best. This year, I will be the designated science and mathematics teacher for about 50 second graders. My classroom of 7 and 8 year olds is always made up students who have a wide variety of abilities, interests, and challenges. This includes learning support students, English language learners, and academically gifted students. I am here to teach them all and give them the best education.

My Project

I want to provide my students with an up-to-date classroom where the newest technology is a part of their learning experience. That is why I am requesting the Amazon Echo. The Amazon Echo is a cutting-edge device that will allow us to do so many things! The Echo is voice-controlled and has a speaker that will immerse the room in sound. It can do simple things like play songs that we use in our learning simply by hearing a vocal request, and it can adjust the volume of those songs just by hearing us ask for the music to be louder and softer. It sounds like a small thing, but the instructional time that will be saved is actually huge -- no more running back and forth to the CD player -- that is a thing of the past! Academically, we will use the Echo in many ways. In science, we study weather. With the Echo, we can simply ask for different weather statistics, and the Echo TELLS US the information! This will aide in data collection, graphing, and more!

The Echo also answers ANY questions that the students ask.

As a teacher, I can't tell you how many times I have had to answer the kids' questions by saying, "Let's Google that in a little while when we have time." Now, we can simply ask the Echo and use the answer to move forward in our learning without stopping a thought-process! This is truly life-changing for the classroom! With your help, my students can benefit now from the technology that is definitely going to be a part of their future.
