Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 6th grade English Language Arts in a poor neighborhood in New York State. Parents are not able to purchase good dictionaries and thesaurus for their children. I feel vocabulary is essential for a child's education. My goal is to modify their choice of words in order achieve better vernacular. As we all know, vocabulary and presentation is key to success in life. I would like my students to be exposed to a higher level of vocabulary. I teach my student's elaborate vocabulary words, such as facetious, itinerary, and prognosis. It is a great feeling when my students use the vocabulary words in its correct form. During independent reading, my students become very excited and proud of themselves when they identify a vocabulary word I have taught them because they now know the meaning of the word. In my classroom, there are hardly any dictionaries or thesaurus'. I am asking for your support to help and better my student's education. Sixth grade is the make or break point. I want to ensure that my students have resources for better opportunities in life.
