Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
At times we like to get a little messy in art but can easily wash hands and clean up. However, this is not the case when you look at our floor. My students love to sit on the floor and work , watch presentations and read books but can't since it is so dirty, wet, and cold!
I am an Art teacher in an elementary school in beautiful Nevada.
The school that I teach at is an at-risk school. I see about 975 students every week, from kindergarten through grade five . All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.
My Project
I teach 975 amazing artists! We love to lay on the floor and work but sometimes it's just too cold. We do not have a carpet and at times my students slip and fall near the sink where the floor gets wet. The entire floor of my classroom is not covered with a rug so the green tiles are freezing in the winter, especially in the morning hours.
We would absolutely love a cheerful, soft, colorful and warm rug for our meeting area so we could lay on the floor and work in the winter. Our classroom space is tiny and we would love to be able to use all of the space in our classroom all year round.
Please us help fund our new rug so we have a comfortable and warm place to meet and work.
We need this rug so we can stay clean, warm and safe! We are sick of dirty, slippery, and wet floors to sit on!
