My Students

We're actually kicking off a new school year! I'm new to the school. I spent the past eight years teaching middle school. As I return to teaching elementary, I'm excited about utilizing technology to enhance instruction and organize curriculum content. My students come from a diverse social and cultural backgrounds.

We're a fourth and fifth grade combination class.

I like to think that a combo class provides students dual opportunities to learn concepts. That whatever my students don't totally understand in year 1, they'll get a second at it in chance in year 2.

The students at Ortega care deeply about their community and about achieving academically. We like to think of ourselves as a school that sits on the top of a hill, with the ocean right to our west and the skies above!

My Project

Some might argue that technology has destroyed the fibers of family, face-to-face discourse, and community. That technology is on our minds too much and that we must unplug.

And yes, I get it - there are times that we all need to take a step back from our many electronics, tablets, smartphones, etc.

Yet, when it comes to getting things done in a classroom setting, technology is essential. It allows greater access to the real-world. More importantly, it creates a limitless space for ideas to develop and collaboration to occur.

That being said, thanks in advance for your help in enabling our class to engage more dynamically with math, science, and language content. With an Apple TV, our digital sharing capabilities will thrive and foster academic growth!
