My Project
I am an occupational therapist and work with students with Autism. My students learn best through play. The items I have selected will develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination skills that will carry over into the classroom activities they will complete with their teacher...while having fun!
These materials will strengthen their pincer grasp (pinch finger to thumb) which will help them learn how to hold pencils, crayons, and markers correctly.
They will also learn how to use both hands at the same time which will help them learn how to cut out items, zip their coat, button their shirt or pants, tie their shoes.
They will also have to scan the items to match the color or the shape which works on their visual motor skills. This will help them learn how to copy letters and numbers correctly and legibly and eventually copy words and sentences.
