My students need writing tools such as pencils, markers, and journals. The small sofa and carpet are needed for the literacy area for an engaging and clean space to read.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend and despite their hardships they are eager to learn and do their best.

They like to move and they love to read and to be given opportunities to show their creative ideas and learning styles. Their socioeconomic status may prevent them from getting ahead or provide them with life experiences. I am hopeful if we can provide them with the necessary resources it will lead them to a path of excellence.

My Project

The Environment Is a Teacher

Space speaks.

Architects and designers know this; young children know it too. Every day, they are reading the environments through which they navigate. The classroom invites creativity and a new clean environment is needed to begin a school year off to a positive start. Beauty is part of the children's environment and it engages the child to explore with the materials. The materials elevate the child to a higher level as they interact with the environment. A clean and organized room that invites positive higher level learning is the key to the beginning of a successful school year. This is why I'm requesting sofas, ink, 100 Sight Word Mini-Books, dry-erase markers, glue sticks, pencils, crayons, notebooks, and more.
