Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from the Southeast side of Chicago and many are from immigrant families. Almost 90% are low-income. My school is a PreK-8 building comprising around 850 students in total. The demographics are 95% Latino, 3% African-American, and 2% white. All of our families are hard-working, blue-collar, and proud.
Even though they might not have much, our parents push their children to work hard and make a better life for themselves.
They want their kids to grow and succeed.
My Project
Every student should have their own copy of the various texts we read. There is a joy about being able to hold your own copy of a text.
Make the Holocaust come alive for my students with Elie Wiesel's memoir.
Students will be more prepared to discuss the book if they are able read it at home before having discussions about the text in class.
We will be able to do more interactive activities in class like debate, discussions and researching other survivors of the Holocaust. Please consider donating to this worthwhile project.
