it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a first-year school counselor, I am committed to continuous professional growth to better serve my students. I plan to engage with a variety of targeted resources focused on effective counseling strategies, the ASCA model, and trauma-informed practices. This professional development will provide me with the professional texts, tools, and knowledge necessary to create a more supportive and inclusive environment for my diverse student population.
By enhancing my understanding of social-emotional learning and culturally responsive counseling techniques, I will be able to implement strategies that directly address the needs of my students, many of whom come from low-income backgrounds, are first-generation high school students, or are facing personal and family trauma.
I aim to apply this knowledge in my counseling sessions, developing tailored interventions that foster resilience, academic success, and emotional well-being.
My students will greatly benefit from this growth. By incorporating the latest counseling practices into my work, I will provide them with the support they need to overcome barriers to success. They will feel more understood and empowered, leading to improved attendance, engagement, and overall achievement. Ultimately, my professional development will not only enhance my capabilities as a counselor but also positively impact the lives of my students, helping them navigate their challenges and reach their full potential.
