This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Miss, when are we gonna learn to do that thing like in that old movie, "Ghost"? First, that old movie?!? And second, remember how cool that was?

My students are so excited to use the pottery wheels!

And I can't wait for them to have the completely unique experience of trying to center clay. I know they'll be frustrated because they think its easy, but they will be engaged and focused on getting it. These kids live in the inner city and go to an arts focused middle school. They are bold and creative and are eager to dive into new experiences.

My Project

Ordinarily they would not have the smell of earth, the slick feel of mud, and the tactile struggle with materials. We are fortunate to have the big pieces of equipment needed to develop a ceramics program. Now we just need the clay, tools and some learning aids to get it started.

Your donation to these students will provide an exciting end of the year experience, but just as important, their work will inspire the kids in other grades.

Everyone wants to work with clay and in a school focused on the arts, ceramics is a necessary component.
