My Students

"What country are we "visiting" next, Ms. W.?? I get that all the time from my world travelers! We have had a blast covering the arts and cultures of six countries so far, but we are out of basic supplies. Glue, tape, markers, watercolors and brushes will help us with our visits to China and India.

My students face daily challenges in their personal lives.

School is a welcome, warm environment where they feel safe and loved. My art program is innovative, fun and ensures success from every student but I'd like to continue to take them to faraway places and learn new mediums. Budget cuts in school and art supplies has kept art teachers from getting the quantities they need. Glue sticks, sumi brushes, liquid watercolors, wiggly eyes, prismacolor markers can all be shared by all grade levels to visit our current country, Japan. Gyotaku fish printing, creating kokeshis, calligraphy, sumi-E Japanese ink painting, making Daruma good luck dolls are all unusual projects that put the student right in the middle of the country. They can't help but learn about the people, customs, culture and arts. When they greet me at the door by speaking the language of the country we are "in", I know they are engaged and excited!

My Project

Having good quality art materials is essential for my students to prepare themselves for learning successfully and accomplishing their goals. The school supplies a skeleton array of needed materials but there are always art projects I have researched that I want to introduce to my students. Projects such as marbling, block printing, sumi-E painting, anime cartooning, and Daruma will help them learn about another culture and what the students there are learning. Finding common ground between America and other countries provides a global awareness and creative thinking skills.The materials for these supplies are pricey but ensure a feeling of accomplishment when my students view their finished product. All people are curious about faraway places and learning what is happening in these places helps my students realize what opportunities are open to them and that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.

Any help I receive will benefit my financially challenged population of students.

All materials will be used for all classes and all students will receive fantastic art lessons sought out and researched in depth by me. To virtually take them to new worlds and introduce them to new things is something I want to give to them and your help will ensure they continue to travel. I want to be proactive in bringing them excitement, stimulate them to learn and have great fun in the process.
