The Dustbin Of History

My students need a laptop to run our projector, so we can relegate our chalkboards and ancient overhead projector to THE DUSTBIN OF HISTORY!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The challenge of teaching history is to make it interesting, to make the past come alive. Tools like chalkboards and overhead projectors are a beginning, but alone do not get the job done. With today's technology, we can present students with a host of new materials to keep them interested.

My students come from inner city NY.

95% of our students qualify for the federal free lunch program. Our school does an excellent job preparing them for college, but it is an uphill battle and we could use all of the resources we can get our hands on.

My Project

The laptop we are requesting will allow us to use a projector to help bring history to life with images. It will also allow us to tap into an amazing array of Internet sources to explore history in more interesting and varied ways. Without it we are left with textbooks and photo copies, which serve as a great starting point but don't allow us to vary our activities and to reach the heights of real inspiration that we are always striving for.

Without the ability to inject technology into the classroom, we lose out on a myriad of resources that are now available.

And we suffer in terms of morale as well, because it makes us all feel like we are doing things the same old way, while the rest of the world passes us by.
