My Students
My students often begin school only days after entering the Unites States. For many, their entry into school is their first experience with American culture, academics, and the English language. Imagine starting school and not being able to understand what is being said and not being able to make yourself understood!
I teach in a Title 1 school with a high immigrant/low income population.
My students are incredibly hard-working and creative. It's a joy to help them achieve their best.
My Project
Mathematicians make many mistakes and revisions while they are learning and, somehow the terrible, dry erase eating monster has consumed all of our markers.
In our class we use these markers daily to solve problems, adjust our thinking, and tackle difficult concepts.
We have done math on our desks, our boards and even the walls! These markers make the experience approachable, changeable and fun.
Please consider providing what has become a basic necessity in math class. My fourth grade students have learned that, if something doesn't work, you change it. Having the right tools for the job will help to push our thinking and provide access to everyone.
