Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are DREAM CHASERS of the DAY. We work hard and strive towards being the best dreamers! You can find each dreamer working in small groups or individually on a task. The biggest challenge is not having enough resources for the 36 students in my classroom. "Everyday you get smarter and smarter!"

19 of my students are spending their 2nd year with me.

They have become critical thinkers, independent and energetic learners. My students are eager learners with multiple learning styles. My learners are not just bodies at a desk. They are bodies and minds on the go and on the move. They are students who will find a personalized learning space away from their desk (a fluffy pillow, stretched out on the floor or carpet, sitting on lawn chairs, ottoman, or cushioned chair). Some students are verbal and will ask to read what they discovered aloud to peers. Learners will utilize technology to research or type poems or narratives to share with other "dreamers" of our classroom. Learners have a plan and a mission and will complete the task when ever and where ever. They are helpful towards their peers. My school is located on the south side of Chicago. We are surrounded by gun violence, gangs, abandoned buildings, and drugs. We are a feeder for three homeless shelters within the community.

My Project

We have licensed technology programs where students are able to fulfill their personalized learning goals. Dreamers desire to improve their knowledge in vocabulary, reading fluently, understand or comprehend stories, and basic math facts. Anytime, anywhere, when ever and where ever is an opportunity for the "Dreamers" to fulfill their learning opportunity. Students often request to come to school early, come to the classroom for lunch, or simply stay after school so that they can research something new or complete an assigned task using the limited technology we have. Students will be able to utilize the Chromebooks throughout the day even before and after school. Students will physically move throughout the building during the "whenever" and "wherever" learning opportunity time. Our principal have provided students with household furniture in open space or common areas in the building and outside on our patio. Dreamers will be allowed to check out Chromebooks during this time.

Your contribution will improve students fluency in reading and math.

The technology will provide an opportunity for learners to access the learning programs we have in place for students in fourth grade. The technology will also engage my "DREAMERS" to fulfill their learning paths. Your donations will impact students ability to have a growth mindset and self-motivated. They are trying to encourage others to do better in the school and within their community. They are dream builders and keepers.
