Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Advanced Placement students need to think deeply about how their studies relate to the world today and how their ideas can shape the world tomorrow. I teach 12th grade Economics and AP Macroeconomics in a high-needs community of recent Latino immigrants.
My students are very interested in how the study of economics is about much more than money, formulas, and graphs. We have textbooks and supplemental materials to engage them in the analytical side of economics, but they have great interest in how it all relates to the real world and current events, and need more resources to meet that need.
These books are just the solution. They will provide students the opportunity to engage in cooperative reading groups to connect the analytical and mathematical side of economics to current events and real-world problems and situations. The synthesis of ideas from different points of view and the application of economics concepts to real-world problems will certainly help make the AP class more like a real college class.
Your help will help expose a class of brilliant students to the possibilities that come from deep study and application. Please help these students experience the feel of a real college class, complete with the excitement of connecting many deep ideas to their own lives and the world we live in!
