My students need Chromebooks in order to be prepared for the real world environment. As our nation becomes increasingly more technology-dependent, it becomes necessary that to be successful citizens, students must learn to be tech-savvy.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a Title I school with approximately 450 students. Our students range from Low to Middle income. The majority of our students are new to this country or have parents that are new to the United States. The school was built in 50's and has very little technological resources.
As the first grade inclusion teacher I want to encourage students to use technology as a tool for learning.
Most of my students do not have a computer at home and do not have sufficient computer skills needed to complete basic computer activities or engage in learning games. I need my students to be able to learn basic computer skills, be able to complete activities and engage in learning games.
My Project
Students will use Chromebooks to research and play learning games. The computers will be used to reinforce instruction and will be used as a tool in instruction through podcasts, videos and multimedia. Working on computers together will foster collaboration between students and between the students and I as we work together on projects. As a result of having daily access to functioning computers, students will gain word processing skills when learning to type: skills they will need to be college ready. Having access to computer time will promote using higher order thinking skills and is a natural form of discovery through trial and error. In addition, having computers in the class increases responsibility, independence and a sense of accomplishment.
