Help me give my students testing meters and indicator strips to analyze the quality of our local water supply.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a small Title I high school located in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, NY. We are located in "Asthma Alley," and sandwiched between two major urban bridges - the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.
All of my students are recent arrivals to the United States and English language learners.
They come from every part of the globe seeking a new life of opportunity and freedom here in the United States. They come with the hope that education will allow them to meet their full potential.
Many are on public assistance; many others are barely surviving. Yet, my students are expected to meet the same educational standards as more affluent students of New York.
My Project
New Yorkers are very proud of their local water supply. They often claim it's the best water in the entire USA. But is that really true?
As our school prides itself on fostering critical thinking and exploration; this project will encourage students to discover for themselves if NYC's water is indeed the best.
Our students will use various tools including meters, indicator strips, and reagents to test the various factors that determine water quality and purity of NYC tap water versus bottled and filtered water.
Based on our present enrollment numbers, we expect a reduced annual budget for the 2021-22 year. Conducting this project will depend entirely on donations from kind people like you. With your help, we can get this done.
Thank you for your continued support of public education.
