My Students
My second graders come from all walks of life in our rural school district. We have some students living in poverty, those whose families own businesses, and everyone in between.
What I love most about my kids is their excitement and love for learning.
They see joy in every day at school. Our school is small but close-knit; like a family, and we want to make sure our students continue to love, enjoy, and find excitement in every school day.
I teach both classes of second graders at our school, which is only a total of 24 students all together. Small as we may be, it allows for so much more individualized learning and super-fun projects and activities! A small donation will go a long way with this group.
My Project
The definition of success is "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose". I am aiming to give my students a class set of American Heritage dictionaries to use in class as-needed. Being able to properly use a dictionary is a common core standard and an important life skill. I currently only own 1 student dictionary or I borrow from other teachers. To have our own set will allow us to accomplish many assignments and goals.
I know my students will be thrilled to each have a dictionary to use for assignments and when researching or writing.
They honestly show so much joy and excitement just from browsing through my one dictionary in a small group and discovering new words and definitions. As an ELA teacher, I refer to the dictionary very often and to have 12 available to me and my students would make all of our jobs a lot easier. I am also asking for a chart dictionary to demonstrate and explain how to use dictionaries.
