Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is the last stop for many of these highly-motivated English learners of all ages. My goal: for them to achieve a critical mass of English language by June 2019.
This combination ELD/English/Theater class is comprised of students ages 13-19, with varying levels of English proficiency.
Many have arrived here only three years ago, knowing only oral Mayan languages. They are bright, funny, and compassionate, and help each other at every opportunity.
They come from impoverished, unstable backgrounds, but every day they make the choice to show up to class and try their best, avoiding the many temptations for disengagement and trouble in their neighborhoods. They deserve the best I can give them.
My Project
My diligent English Language Learners need to engage with their lessons more creatively and with better annotation, in order to deepen - and retain - their learning. They also need help in organizing their materials to be at their disposal when they need them to practice their English. I am requesting art boxes, color pencils, pencil sharpeners, binders and binder tabs materials will help them better use the resources I create for them, and the work they complete.

I am also requesting a document camera which will be a valuable addition to my ability to model thinking, writing, note-taking, etc. As I have my students often write about art and photography, this camera will enable me to be more flexible and deliver more images to them to respond to.
